Financial Communicator and IR Cafe Blogger
Speaks On Investor Relations Media and Technologies

June 8, 2009 - Richard M. Johnson, president of Johnson Strategic Communications Inc. and writer of the IR Cafe blog, spoke today in a panel discussion on "Trends in Media and Technologies" at the 2009 Annual Conference of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) in Hollywood, Florida. The panel focused on use of corporate websites, blogs and rapidly growing social media for communicating with investors.

"From an audience-centered perspective, an investor has three experiences when he or she visits your website. He finds information, forms impressions and has the chance to interact in some way," Johnson said. "These experiences match up with our purposes for websites: Disclosure of information is the bread and butter of IR, creating impressions is part of our role in building a corporate brand, and the culture of IR people is to engage with investors."

"Principles of good disclosure are the same on a website as offline - it should be timely, accurate, clear and complete," Johnson noted. "In addition, disclosure on a website should be usable - well organized and easy for investors to find."

In connection with the NIRI workshop, Johnson posted two new resources for investor relations professionals on the IR Cafe blog: a list of sources on interactive communications, "IR 2.0 - A Menu," and a benchmarking tool for corporate websites, "IR Website Checklist."
